Venus - "the Bringer of Peace" - Gustav Holst (The Planets)
The nature of the work we do is often sensitive and always confidential. The results of our work are also confidential. The tax at stake can vary enormously but the common theme is that there is an unresolved dispute, enquiry or investigation. We cannot describe these cases in detail but here is a very brief example of actual work we are doing or have recently completed:
• A selection of civil investigations under Code of Practice 9
• Disclosures under the various “disclosure opportunities” including the Liechtenstein Disclosure Facility (“LDF”)
• A selection of HMRC investigations into tax avoidance schemes
• Negotiating settlements with HMRC in relation to their enquiries
• HMRC investigations into offshore structures
• Resolving disputes over tax residence or domicile status
• Preparing cases for “Internal Review” of HMRC decisions
• Preparing appeals for the Tax Tribunals and instructing Counsel
• Judicial review of HMRC’s actions and exercise of their powers
• Appealing against alleged discovery assessments
• Penalty disputes and negotiating reasonable penalty levels
• Bringing blocked or difficult HMRC enquiries and investigations to a conclusion
• Advising lawyers on the merits of professional negligence claims in relation to tax advice
